Two charged in connection with shooting during Mexican Independence Day celebration
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Two people have been charged with criminal recklessness in connection with a shooting on South Bend’s west side during a Mexican Independence Day celebration, according to the South Bend Police Department.
Police arrested 21-year-old Marcos Granado and 16-year-old Nicholas Granado in connection with the incident.
Marcos Granado was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a handgun. He has a past conviction for possession of a machine gun and therefore can’t carry a handgun, according to police.
Nicholas Granado was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and dangerous possession of a firearm. He was previously adjudicated in juvenile court for dangerous possession of a firearm, police said.
The two were arrested after evidence showed Marcos and Nicholas were seen firing guns toward vehicles and large groups of people during the celebration around Philippa and Huron streets.
Four people received non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting.
This is an ongoing investigation.
