Two Fort Campbell soldiers killed in helicopter crash

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- An Apache helicopter carrying two soldiers from the Air Assault unit were killed Friday night.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. two soldiers from the 101 Combat Aviation Brigade were killed in an AH-64E Apache helicopter crash at Fort Campbell.

The identities of the victims will be released following next-of-kin notification.

The crew was performing routine training at the time of the accident.

Recovery operations are underway with Emergency Services and Fort Campbell Fire is on the scene.

Investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Brig. Gen. Todd Royar said, “This is a day of sadness for Fort Campbell and the 101 Airborne. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time.”
