Two juveniles arrested in connection to larcenies from vehicles

DOWAGIAC, Mich. – Officers from the Dowagiac Police Department apprehended two juveniles around 1 a.m. Tuesday after they allegedly stole property from inside several vehicles.

Officers were first notified of the larcenies by a victim in the 200 block of First Ave. The victim said that someone(s) broke into their vehicle.

The victim said that loose change was taken from their vehicle and that he captured the incident on his surveillance camera.

Officers in the area then observed two suspicious subjects near Cass and Hill Streets.

An officer closely monitored the suspicious subjects while another officer viewed footage from the surveillance system of the victim.

The officer was able to identify a subject in the footage as one of the suspicious subjects the other officer was watching.

The two subjects were then detained. They are ages 14 and 16.

The juveniles confessed to having entered the vehicle on First Avenue and around 10 other vehicles that evening.

The property stolen from the vehicles was found in a backpack belonging to the 16 year old.

The juveniles were released into the custody of their parents.

All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

The names of the suspects are being withheld due to their juvenile status.
