Two morning house fires in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It was a busy morning for South Bend Firefighters and it's going to be a busy day for investigators as they try to figure out the causes of the house fires.
The first fire broke out right before midnight on the 100 block of East Donald Street. Two people had to be rushed to the hospital. One of the victims was trapped inside the house and had to be rescued. That victim has been transfered from Memorial Hospital to St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. The victim is listed in critical condition.
ABC 57's Overnight Reporter Mike Pache talked to one of the survivors of the house fire. The survivor said that all three of the residents were sleeping at the time of the fire and awoke to flames and smoke.
The second fire happened about six hours later and one block down the road from the first fire.
The house fire was located on the 2000 block of South Michigan Street. Firefighters found a house that was fully engulfed in flames. Luckily no one was inside the home at the time. None of the firefighters were hurt during the fires.
