Two people on motorized tricycle injured in crash on CR 16

MIDDLEBURY, Ind. -- A truck pulling a trailer struck two people who were riding a motorized tricycle Friday afternoon on CR 16, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.

A pickup truck pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on CR 16, east of CR 43, around 2:30 p.m. when the driver attempted to pass two people on a motorized tricycle that was also headed eastbound.

As the driver of the pickup truck pulled back into the eastbound lane, his trailer sideswiped the tricycle, causing both occupants to be knocked off the bike, reports said.

One of the passengers suffered a head and arm injury and was flown to the hospital by helicopter.

The second passenger suffered an ankle injury and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, reports said.
