Two St. Joseph County women arrested on felonies in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee near S.R. 16 and Union City Road in Denver, Ind. for a traffic violation around 9:41 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16

The Jeep's driver was identified as 28-year-old Jennifer Lee Oblinger of South Bend, and passenger as 28-year-old Ashley Nicole Beatty of Mishawaka.

The report states while the trooper was speaking with Oblinger, he noticed indicators that criminal activity might be afoot and requested assistance.

An ISP K9 trooper and his K9 partner, Mack, arrived on the scene.

The report states the K9 was utilized to conduct an open-air sniff, which indicated the presence of narcotics inside the Jeep.

A search of the vehicle was then conducted which resulted in troopers locating suspected methamphetamine, syringes, and a controlled substance.

Through further investigation it was revealed Beatty had an active felony warrant out of Elkhart County.

Authorities say the suspected methamphetamine and controlled substance will be sent to the ISP Laboratory for an exact determination of substance.

Oblinger and Beatty were arrested and taken to the Miami County Jail.

Oblinger was arrested on the preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, Level 6 Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance, A Misdemeanor, and Operating Without Ever Receiving a License, A Misdemeanor.

Beatty was arrested on the preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony, Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony, False Informing, A Misdemeanor, and the Elkhart County Warrant.
