SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In honor of Dyngus and Solidarity Day, two South Bend streets were renamed on Monday.
The intersection of W. Western Avenue and Laurel Street is now called Solidarity Drive.
The intersection outside of the Democratic Club, Ford Street at S. Warren Street is now Dyngus Day Drive.
According to Mayor Pete Buttigieg, politics, voting, and the Polish heritage all come together.
“It's a reminder that at the end of the day politics is about people, and campaigning, at its best is, about people getting to know each other and coming to celebrate and enjoy civic occasions and communities.” Mayor Pete Buttigieg said.
The new street names and signs are temporary, but this is done to remind residents of the start of spring and Primary election season in Indiana.
