Two-vehicle crash in South Bend kills one
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Law enforcement officials were called to the scene of a two-vehicle fatal crash on Sunday around 12:11 a.m. at the intersection of South Jacob Street and East Jefferson Boulevard, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.
Police say that Thomas J. Griffin, a 79-year-old man from Chicago, was traveling south on Jacob Street and a 21-year-old South Bend resident was traveling west on Jefferson Boulevard at the time of the incident.
Both vehicles collided in the intersection; the South Bend resident sustained no injuries, but Griffin was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment where he was pronounced dead.
According to officials, impairment is not suspected from either individual, with toxicology reports pending.
St. Joseph County FACT is currently investigating the crash.
