University Park Mall goes green

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- If you want a closer parking spot at the mall, all you have to do is make a greener choice for your vehicle.

On Thursday, the University Park Mall in Mishawaka showed off their new electric car charging stations.

They are located at the entrance between Macy's and JC Penney's.

A company called "350 Green" installed and maintains the stations, which people can use to charge their electric cars (like the Chevy Volt).

"People are going to be looking for public place to top off their battery, typically a charge time at a location like this is going to be about an hour to 90 minutes," said Ken Adam with 350 Green.

350 Green's goal is to have a nationwide network of charging stations for electric vehicles.

The mall said this is the first set of public charging stations it knows of in the area.
