Alleged unlicensed daycare in Goshen ordered to shut down by Judge

ABC 57

GOSHEN, Ind. -- An alleged unlicensed daycare in Goshen has been ordered to shut down within the next 30 days while the state’s lawsuit against it moves forward.

Court records filed on July 9 show the judge granted the state's request from a preliminary injunction, which blocks the two women named in the case from operating a childcare home at the County Road 42 residence or anywhere else during the proceedings.

According to the initial filing, records show that inspectors and deputies serving a search warrant in June found 86 children inside the home, with 66 of them in the basement with no fire escape. The records also state that three infants were left strapped in cars seats inside closets, and only three adults to supervise all the children.

The judge found the operators had never been licensed to run a childcare home.

The temporary injunction will remain in effect pending resolution on permanent injunctions.
