UPDATE: Identity of Niles crash victim pending

NILES, Mich. -- We are following the latest on a deadly accident that happened on Sunday morning in Niles.

An SUV left the side of the road and hit several trees and caught fire.

It took emergency crews several hours to get the victim's body out.

We checked with the Sheriff's office on Monday to see if the victim's name and age have been released. 

We were told that his body was so badly burned that it has been taken to Grand Rapids for identification through DNA and dental records.

It could take several days before we know who the victim was.
