Valparaiso man dies after crash on I-80/94
A man is dead following a crash on I-80/94 when he hit the cement median for unknown reasons Thursday evening.
Indiana State Police say the preliminary investigation suggests at about 7:25 p.m., a 2003 Chevy Blazer, driven by 39-year-old Albert Jones II of Valparaiso, was east bound on I-80/94 when the vehicle reportedly swerved across all eastbound lanes before running off the roadway, and eventually crashing in a water-filled ditch.
Witnesses stated that Jones was not responsive before emergency crews arrived to the scene.
Law enforcement worked to pull the unresponsive Jones from his vehicle which was submerged in approximately 24 inches of water and mud.
A Lake Station police officer began CPR on Jones once getting him to the roadway.
According ISP, a trooper administered his Automated External Defibrillator (AED), until medical personnel arrived and took over CPR.
Jones was transported to North Lake Methodist in Gary where he later died.
