Van Buren County police search for 'Johnny Apple Thief'

VAN BUREN CO., Ind. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department is looking for an apple tree thief.

Thirty-three young golden delicious apple trees were stolen from Sauer Farms in Bloomingdale Township.

Police said the crime happened sometime overnight from Wednesday to Thursday morning.

Farmers told police that the trees were recently planted in a field near 45th St. and 15th Ave. They were only 2 to 3-years-old (3-feet tall) and will not bear fruit for 4 to 5 years.

Police said that the thief came onto the property and pulled the trees right out of the ground.
