Victim identified in deadly shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The victim in Friday night's deadly shooting on the city's NW side has been identified as Dietrich Perkins, 31 of South Bend.

Perkins was shot and killed near the corner of Johnson and Lathrop Streets in South Bend

Police say officers responded to a call of multiple shots fired in the area just before 8 p.m. Friday night. When police arrived they found a black sedan crashed into a nearby telephone pole with several bullet holes in the hood and front windshield of the car. 

A short distance away, police found Perkins on the ground shot to death. Police say he had been shot several times. Neighbors say they heard close to 20 shots fired, including a short pause before the gun shots continued.

Investigators say a woman, the driver of the black car, witnessed the shooting. The woman was not shot, but may have sustain minor injuries from the car crash.

No arrests have been made.
