LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal crash at US 20 and 750 E. Wednesday around 3 p.m. CST.

Authorities identified the victim as 20-year-old Cody Strauch.

Strauch was driving his 2000 GMC Yukon westbound on US 20 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Officials are unsure as to why the vehicle left the road but believe that the wetness of the road surface may have been a factor.

An investigation is underway to uncover why this accident occurred.

US 20 was closed between New Carlisle and CR 700 E for several hours. It reopened around 5:30 p.m.
