Victim pulls gun on would-be robber armed with a knife

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A man has been charged for allegedly attempting to rob a hotel guest while armed with a knife, according to court records. The suspect ran after the victim pulled out a gun.

On Friday, St. Joseph County Police were dispatched to a hotel on SR 933 for an attempted stabbing.

The victim said he was outside his room smoking when a man came around the corner of the building with a knife and said "give me everything you got," reports said.

The victim then pulled a gun from his holster and told the man to leave, reports said.

The man ran away and began jumping fences and running through nearby backyards, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Officers set up a perimeter and located Kevin Day in the back yard of a home in the 19000 block of Paxson.

Day was taken into custody.

During a search of his person, police found a black and gold knife in his right pocket, police said.

Day admitted to pulling a knife and demanding money from the victim at the hotel, police said.

Day said he ran because he didn't want to get shot.

Day has been charged with one count of armed robbery.
