MIAMI—A good Samaritan is being credited with rescuing a man in the water near Fisherman’s Channel in Florida on Monday evening, according to the United States Coast Guard.
The man had been separated from his boat and was rescued from the water.
According to the USCG, the man did not have a life jacket and sustained a minor injury.
An officer said the man was fortunate the situation was not worse.
The coast guard also shared a reminder of the new April 1 requirement that vessels 26 feet and under must have an engine cut-off switch and operators must wear the lanyard to stop accidents like this one.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were able to stop the vessel before it “ran away” by entangling it.
