Fifteen dancers are hoping to raise thousands to help neighbors facing homelessness.
Michiana business owners, athletes, and even ABC57 NightTeam anchor Tim Spears, are getting ready for the Center for the Homeless Dancing with our Stars fundraiser event. Each dancer is learning a routine while gathering “votes” in the form of donations. Each vote is $43, the daily cost to feed and shelter a guest at the Center.
But they’re only able to do it with the help of volunteers like dance instructor Amy O’Day, of Amy O’Day’s Dance Studio.
“One thing I can do is give my time,” O’Day said.
She’s helped with the event for more than a decade; offering free lessons and choreographing routines.
This year, O’Day is helping five different dancers, giving eight lessons each, spending more than 40 hours helping put on the Center’s largest fundraiser of the year.
“I have four boys of my own, and a lot of the homeless are children,” O’Day said. “I can't even imagine that. So if there’s anything I can do, if it's giving my time and some of my talent to this, I'm more than happy "
Dancing With Our Stars is April 22, at the Hilton Garden Inn.
