Indiana University Senior Lecturer Pierre M. Atlas spoke with ABC57's Brian Conybeare about the controversial 6-3 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a Trump-era ban on bump stocks.
Bump stocks are accessories that can turn a semi-automatic rifle into what is essentially a rapid-fire machine gun.
Machine guns remain illegal in the U.S., but the court found the Trump administration decision to ban bump stocks relied on classifying them as actual "machine guns."
Atlas has a Ph.D. and is the senior lecturer and interim director of the Master of Public Affairs (MPA) Program at Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
