SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department released bodycam footage of a suspect being arrested Thursday night following a vehicle pursuit which ended in the suspect vehicle crashing into parked vehicles downtown.

SBPD says they're aware there was a video circulating online, depicting officers detaining the 19-year-old suspect, now identified as Luis Hernandez-Lopez.

Police say since that video was posted to Facebook, the department has received several calls from concerned residents asking whether Hernandez-Lopez was handcuffed in the viral video.

SBPD says they're only sharing a portion of bodycam footage to maintain transparency.

Police say on Thursday, around 6 p.m., police observed the suspect vehicle near Lincolnway West and College Street.

The vehicle had fled a traffic stop the night before according to authorities.

An officer then attempted to stop the vehicle again, which led to a pursuit.

Police say Hernandez-Lopez then lost control of the vehicle, striking a parked car near the intersection of LaSalle Avenue and Sycamore Street.

Officers then ordered the suspect to exit the vehicle, which they say he disobeyed.

Police say they then attempted to physically detain Hernandez-Lopez.

The report states he resisted, thus stopping officers from handcuffing him.

He was eventually taken into custody and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Once medically cleared, he was taken to St. Joseph County Jail.

Hernandez-Lopez is charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor.

At the time of his arrest, police say he also had an active warrant out of St. Joseph County.

Officials say SBPD's Use of Force Committee will review procedures and evaluate all video, facts, and evidence to ensure officers acted in accordance with department policy.
