Officials say Western Avenue remains closed from Illinois to Wellington Streets.
Repairs are expected to continue through early Tuesday evening, officials said.
Once repaired, officials expect the street to reopen to one-way traffic.
The detour route during the closure is Sample Street via Olive Street or Mayflower Road.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A burst water line has closed Western Avenue between Wellington Street and Illinois Street Tuesday morning.
ABC57 can confirm that the street and surrounding area has flooded, with South Bend Police first alerting of the closure at 2:48 a.m.
Officers are working to tell neighbors on Illinois Street that flooded basements are possible.
As crews work to shut off and fix the water line, you're asked to avoid the area.
