Water main break in Elkhart repaired, roads have reopened

ELKHART, Ind. -- A water main break in Elkhart closed portions of Cone Street and East Emerald Street on Wednesday morning. The break has since been repaired and the roads have reopened.

The water main broke around 10 a.m. Wednesday and began flooding the road with water.

City officials say the break was likely not weather related, but the weather caused repairs to take longer than normal.

Many employees were not working on Wednesday and those that responded to this incident had to be rotated in and out because of the extreme cold and dampness.

The city said it was fortunate it had employees who are, "able and willing to respond, regardless of the weather, for the safety of the public."
