Watervliet fisher drowns in Paw Paw Lake

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - A Watervliet man has died after his kayak rolled over on Paw Paw Lake Wednesday evening, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the area, in the 8400 block of Lake St., just before 6 p.m.

At that time, the fisherman, identified as 23-year-old Hunter Baldwin, had been brought to shore by witnesses who noticed him struggling and pulled him to safety to do CPR.

Baldwin was still wearing his life jacket when he was rescued.

Despite efforts by witnesses and first responders, Baldwin died.

At this time, law enforcement doesn't believe there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
