Weekend break-in caught on camera
SOUTH BEND, Ind - Back-to-back robbery attempts in South Bend --less than 24-hours apart--are under investigation.
They both happened over the weekend on Illinois Street, just a few blocks away from each other.
One of the homeowners said they were targeted and allegedly caught the suspect on their surveillance cameras before the suspect took off from the scene.
For Charlotte Logan, it happened around 3:45 Saturday morning on Illinois Street, where she's lived for two years.
“When he said, 'Don’t move, I said don’t move,' I said, 'What is he talking about?'” said the robbery victim.
She only opened the door because she thought it could have been her grandson.
That's when things took a terrifying turn.
Logan said she ran to her bedroom, locked her door and called 911.
While she was talking to police, the robbers pointed a gun at the 73-year-old man who she looks after, then snatched a safe before taking off.
“I didn’t know if they would've kicked down that door. [If that would have happened], I would've been dead. The police took too long getting here,” said Logan.
Logan claims it took officers 13 minutes to get to the scene.
After seeing this report, South Bend Police contacted us to say officer logs show police responded in roughly three minutes.
By then, the suspects were already long gone.
"Once my alarm set, they should've been here instantly,” said Logan.
The very next day, around 6:45 Sunday morning, police received a report of an unwanted party at a home just a few doors down.
That time, they didn't get inside.
Logan says she doesn't understand why someone would target her home, but she does have a message for the people causing a commotion in her neighborhood.
‘Get a job." she said. "Go get a job instead of breaking into people's houses. Go get a job."
Again, both of these incidents are under investigation, so if you have any information, you are urged to come forward.
