Welfare check leads to man's arrest on drug charges

A 24-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after police went to his home for a welfare check, according to Elkhart Police.

Police were asked to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 2100 block of Toledo Road on Tuesday afternoon.

When officers arrived, they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the apartment and saw suspected methamphetamine, reports said.

Officers obtained a search warrant and searched the home that evening.

Inside the residence, they located 8 grams of marijuana, half a gram of meth, 99 grams of cocaine, 80 alprazolam pills, digital scales, a .38 revolver reported stolen, a .357 handgun, $600 in cash and ammunition.

Juan Martinez, 24, was arrested on preliminary charges of receiving stolen property, dealing cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine.
