Spring South Bend Artisan Market returns this weekend

Spring South Bend Artisan Market

The Spring South Bend Artisan Market is back this weekend, bringing together dozens of local artists, makers and small businesses.

The two-day event kicks off Saturday at the Century Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets are $5 at the door while children 12 and under get in for free.

The first 100 guests each day will receive a reusable shopping tote bag filled with goodies from the vendors at the show.

One of the hosts of the event is radio station U93.

Morning show co-host Tara Mendenhall believes South Bend has a thriving art scene, and events like this, she says, are a prime example of the community's support for local talent.

"For me, I think all about the birthdays and the holidays that are coming up, like my mom and my dad. This is a great shopping opportunity to not just get wonderful local handmade goods, but we have a ton of vendors offering customizable items. I can get my dad a customized wallet or my mom a bag that has her name printed on it. And these vendors are doing it right there at the artisan market. It's not something you have to order and wait for; you can find it on the spot," Mendenhall said.

Bring your appetite to Niles for final days of Restaurant Week

Niles Restaurant Week

After a successful run last year, Restaurant Week is back in Niles, March 3-9, with a wide variety of restaurants and pubs to choose from.

"This weeklong dining event, organized by the Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce and Niles Main Street, aims to help stimulate tourism and patronage at local restaurants in the Niles area," organizers said.

"Foodies can expect flavorful food and prices that promise to delight the palate and wallet thanks to specials and prix-fixe menus. Participating restaurants for Niles Restaurant Week reflect the area's growing diverse options."

This year's lineup includes:

  • Iron Shoe Distillery
  • Prime Table Restaurant
  • Front Street Pizza Pub
  • Wings, Etc.
  • 2&M Coffeehouse and Wine Bar
  • Veni’s Sweet Shop

Specific details on each establishment’s offerings can be found online.

"Niles area restaurants are fast becoming destination attractions for foodies all over the region," said Greater Niles Chamber Executive Director Ryan Boeskool. "We hope that neighboring communities will come to Niles and find out what they’ve been missing.”

“Restaurant Week is a wonderful opportunity to support local restaurants and take a day off from cooking," said Iron Shoe Distillery owner Howard Tuthill.

"And while you’re out exploring downtown Niles, be sure to check out all of the new developments around town, as there are many new businesses who have moved in. The energy here is exciting and Restaurant Week is the perfect occasion to see what’s new."
