Winter storm pummels upper Midwest

A big blustery winter storm is moving east across America’s Heartland.

The season's first big storm dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the Northern Plains and Western Great Lakes.

This weekend more than 150 flights were canceled at the Minneapolis airport. Roads across Western Minnesota were shut down.

State officials have reported more than 300 weather-related car accidents. An army of snow plows are working around the clock to keep the roads open.

"The first few shifts are hard, but you get into a routine get used to it,” said Thomas Starbacker of the Madison Streets Department. “It's just the way it is."

Blizzard-like conditions are expected to start off the week in the Upper Midwest.
