Woman accused of attacking staff at Elkhart hospital

ELKHART, Ind. - A 34-year-old Elkhart woman was preliminarily charged with battery after allegedly attacking staff members at an area hospital.

Elkhart Police officers were called to the hospital Saturday afternoon for the report.

There, police learned Whitley Hodges threw a trashcan, repeatedly slammed a staff member’s head against the wall, hit a security guard, spit in a second staffer’s eye, struck a third staffer and scratched a fourth, according to police reports.

Hodges is being held on her preliminary charges while the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office reviews the case for formal charges.
