Woman accused of locking stepdaughter in box, killed in morning crash

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The woman accused of locking her stepdaughter in a box was one of two people killed a crash early Monday morning.

According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, the crash on County Road 300 North, west of County Road 1100 East, happened around 6:30 a.m. Central Time.

Donna Short and another passenger were killed and three others were airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

There is no word on how the crash happened.

Short was charged with child neglect for allegedly locking a 3-year-old in a wooden box in January.

The names of the other victims have not yet been released.
