Woman reunites with officer who saved her from burning car

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A 21-year-old woman and the officer who pulled her from a burning car reunite 10 days after he saved her life. They shared that reunion exclusively with ABC 57.

21-year-old Kaylee Murphy survived this crash on January 13 thanks to the quick thinking of St. Joseph County Corporal Rodney Wisser.

When we spoke with Kaylee the day after her crash, she said she wanted to thank the officer who saved her.

The officer said he was excited to do the same.

Tuesday, they got that chance.

With an embrace, Kaylee said, "After learning everything that happened, it's just crazy. I really am glad you were there for me though."

“It brings me a lot of closure knowing that I finally get to meet the face that helped save my life," she said.

“For me it’s just the importance of being out there every night as a police officer. Every once in a while, I get to be in the right place at the right time, and you have to be ready for it, and luckily, things turned out alright this time around," said Corporal Wisser.

“I’m still suffering a lot as far as that accident, like the pictures, like I don’t even mean to cry, but I’m still really emotionally struggling with it and mentally as well, but you know I started school this past week, and I made the dean’s list, and I’m going to graduate with honors, so you know I have other things to look forward to and having my son, so whether or not my car looks like that, I do have more reasons to move on," said Kaylee.
