Woman crashes after pumpkin thrown from overpass into her car

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police are investigating a crash that was caused after someone threw a pumpkin from an overpass which went through the windshield of a vehicle traveling on the Indiana Toll Road.

The driver, 64-year-old Susan Brown of Edwardsburg, was traveling eastbound on the toll road near the 44 mile marker Tuesday evening when the pumpkin crashed through the driver's side windshield of her 2018 Chevrolet.

The pumpkin struck her and caused her to crash into a ditch.

The pumpkin was thrown from the N. Goldring Road overpass, five miles east of the Michigan City exit.

Brown suffered minor injuries.

Police said this is the second incident that has happened at that location and the third in the area since November 7, 2018. All three incidents have happened between 8:45 p.m. and midnight.

The suspects can be charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, or overpass mischief, a felony, if the victim is injured.
