Woman dies in house fire

A house in the 61000 block of Lewis Lake Road in Cass County, Michigan caught fire Saturday night.

The call came in around 9:45 and fire crews from Newberg Township, Cass Fire, Porter Township, Penn Township all responded to the fire.

Once on the scene, crews say the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Fire officials located two of the homeowners who had escaped the fire along with three of four of the family's dogs.

87-year-old Phyllis Tucker of Vandalia did not survive the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters did eventually locate the fourth dog which was transported by Cass County Animal Control for treatment.

The fire remains under investigation by Michigan State Police Fire Investigators.
