Woman found slumped over in car runs from deputies, charged with felonies

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy made a suspicious vehicle check on Ash Road around 9:58 p.m. on Aug. 7 after observing a gray Hyundai passenger car on the side of the road near the construction site entrance of Trinity Lutheran Church.
The deputy noted the vehicle as suspicious due to the construction itself and recent thefts of construction equipment.
The deputy stated the vehicle was still running and the driver, later identified as 55-year-old Barbara Braden, was slumped over.
The report notes she also had a partially burnt "marijuana cigarette" hanging from her mouth at the time.
The deputy on scene also stated the car was emitting a strong odor of burnt marijuana.
Braden was arrested and taken to the hospital with complaints of chest pain.
She allegedly told authorities she had been smoking weed and meth.
While at the hospital, Braden asked to use the restroom. While being escorted there, she fled from deputies toward the hospital exit.
Deputies were able to catch and restrain her.
Once she was medically cleared, Braden was taken to the Elkhart County Jail and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony, Battery Against a Public Safety Official, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Marijuana w/ prior drug conviction. a Misdemeanor, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor.
