Woman, horse injured in crash

VAN BUREN, Mich. -- A woman and her horse were injured when they were struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the 66000 block of County Road 376 around 6:30 p.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian and a horse.

Deputies say a 49-year-old woman and another person were riding horses on the side of the road when one of the riders had a saddle issue.

The woman got off her horse to attend to the saddle when she and the horse were struck by a westbound Subaru, deputies said.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The horse sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
