Woman refuses to open door to subjects claiming to be police

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police are investigating an incident involving two subjects who claimed they were police so a resident would open her door late at night. Police later learned one of the subjects had a weapon.

Elkhart Police were called to a home on Division Street just before midnight Tuesday. The resident told police someone knocked on her door and said they were police.

She looked outside, but didn't see a police vehicle - so she called 911.

Officers who responded searched the area but did not locate the subjects.

The following morning, officers were dispatched to the same home just before 8 a.m.

The resident discovered someone had damaged the rear window of her vehicle overnight.

During the investigation, police were provided with video that showed the two subjects from the night before knocking on the victim's door.

One of subjects was wearing a gray sweatshirt, had his face covered and was carrying a handgun.

The other subject was wearing a black shirt and had his face covered.

Police said they are not releasing the video or images of the subjects at this time.
