BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after a woman’s body was found in a ditch on the side of Old Pipestone Road.

A person was driving on Old Pipestone Road around 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they saw what appeared to be a woman’s body in a ditch along the roadway.

The person contacted law enforcement and medics, who responded to the scene.

It was determined the 52-year-old woman in the ditch was deceased.

She is believed to be a woman who lives in Pipestone Township, but her name is being withheld pending positive identification.

An autopsy will be performed at Western Michigan University.

The woman’s death is being treated as suspicious, but investigators do not believe there is a threat to any other members of the community.
