
ELKHART, Ind. -- Officers with the Elkhart Police Department responded to River Run Apartments for reports of someone being shot early Sunday morning.
When authorities arrived on scene (740 Prairie Street) around 5:48 a.m., they were unable to locate a victim.
"At approximately 6:58 a.m., a female pulled into the parking lot in a Jeep Compass and exited the vehicle," EPD said.
"Officers observed that the female had an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the leg. She refused transport for further medical assistance by medics at the scene and exhibited signs of intoxication."
The woman was identified as 30-year-old Alleea Johnson, of Elkhart. She was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and treatment of her wounds.
"[Johnson] was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on a preliminary charge of Operating While Intoxicated, a Class C Misdemeanor," EPD said.
"Her arrest has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges."
Police say no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
