"Worst driving conditions all season" cause dozens of accidents

Bremen Hwy. is back open after being shut down for more than four hours Thursday morning. The road  between Jackson and Kern Roads was closed while St. Joseph Co. police investigated a deadly crash there. Police told our reporter on scene today's are "the worst driving conditions they've seen" all winter.

Elkhart County Sheriff's deputies posted on their Facebook page a part of U.S. 20 is shut down because of multiple accidents there. They are shutting down the eastbound exit ramp from Old U.S. 20 to U.S. 20 until State Highway provides road treatment and road conditions improve.

They also report S.R. 19 north of Wakarusa is causing traffic tie-ups a mile long after a semi truck jack knifed there, blocking the road.

Right now police are working to remove a driver who's trapped in a car that crashed near New and Ironwood Roads. The car crashed into a pole, and live wires are down. Another driver entangled in a similar crash on S.R. 120 and C.R. 17 in Elkhart County. Live wires are also down there after the car crashed into a pole.

U.S. 31 is also blocked just south of LaPaz due to a crash. Our reporting partners at 95.3 MNC also report there's a multi-vehicle crash on S.R. 15 south of Bristol. Two other cars rolled over on S.R. 15 north of New Paris.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, deputies are on the scene of several slide offs and accidents along the U.S. 20 bypass.

Deputies were called to S.R. 19 interchange for a rollover accident around 4:00 a.m. The department says iced over roads were to blame.

Officials are urging drivers to use extreme caution and prepare for increased traffic delays and road hazards.
