Wrong way driver causes fatal accident in St. Joseph County

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials say one person is dead after a collision occurred on US 31 in St. Joseph County early Saturday morning.

Authorities say the call came in at 2:32 a.m.

Witnesses say a vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of US 31 near the Marshall-St. Joseph County line.

Officials say the person driving the wrong way vehicle was Russell Stull, a 52-year-old man from Plymouth.

Stull crashed his vehicle into a northbound vehicle being driven by 55-year-old Steven Pletcher, of Culver.

According to authorities Pletcher was pronounced dead at the scene and Stull was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital after being extricated from his vehicle. Stull's condition has not been released.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol are a factor in this deadly crash but officials say this is an ongoing investigation.
