Zoo animals find ways to keep cool in the heat

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ice cubes, sprinklers and lots of dips in the pool are how the animals at Potawatomi Zoo are trying to keep cool in this hot weather.

ABC57 dropped by the zoo and saw several animals laying low.

A tiger, ostriches, and some turtles, and even some cows got sprayed with water.

Zoo keepers told us they take extra precautions to make sure the animals can handle the hot weather.

"A lot of exhibits are designed with a nice shade tree and mister and sprinklers," zookeeper Laura Arriaga said. "Some animals actually have air conditioning."

The zoo also has sprinklers for us humans too.
