10-year-old bicyclist hit by a van on SR 331

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A 10-year-old boy who was riding his bike was injured when he was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon, according to Indiana State Police.

Around 3 p.m., police were called to a crash between a bicycle and a van at SR 331 and 3rd Road near Bremen.

The investigation revealed 10-year-old Caythan Cullen was riding his bike eastbound on 3rd Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at 331, reports said.

Cullen rode into the path of the van traveling southbound on SR 331, police said.

Cullen was hit by the van and thrown from his bicycle.

He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening.

The van's driver was not injured.

I don't know how more cyclists aren't killed. So many I almost hit feel like they don't need to follow traffic laws. They fight to share the road then ignore stop signs.

This case was different. A 10 year old should NEVER be riding his bike unsupervised at that intersection.

I hope he recovers quickly and the adults who were supposed to be watching him are punished for this incident.
