Teen suspect charged in shooting of 10-year-old girl, case sent to juvenile courts

The suspect was identified as Jacob Olvera by the Mishawaka Police Department.
Olvera was initially moved to the Juvenile Justice Center of Saint Joseph County on Monday.
At the hearing, Olvera was ordered to remain in custody at Thomas N. Frederick Juvenile Justice Center.
Police say the case will be handled through the juvenile courts but may be moved to adult court if appropriate.
Olvera's formal arraignment has been scheduled for Feb. 18 at 2:15 p.m.
Olvera is facing charges of Criminal Recklessness, a Level 6 Felony, Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, a class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Machine Gun, a Level 5 Felony.
The prosecutor’s office states it will be conferring with Burks' family on next steps.
The case remains under investigation by the Mishawaka Police Department.
