18-year-old shot at Beacon apartments, juvenile in custody

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- An 18-year-old man was injured in a shooting at Beacon apartments Monday evening. A juvenile has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, according to South Bend Police.

Police were called to the 3400 block of Putnam Place around 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

During the investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified and taken into custody.

While being transported to the police station, the juvenile kicked out the window of a patrol vehicle, police said.

The juvenile is accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness and vandalism.
