20-year-old charged with Armed Robbery

Elkhart County Jail

ELKHART, Ind. -- A 20-year-old man has been charged with two counts of Armed Robbery and one count of Theft after several goods were taken from the Bulldog Mobile gas station Jan. 15, and tobacco and THC substitute products were robbed from the Toledo Mart in December 2025.

On Thursday, Jan. 15, 20-year-old Javion Edwards was charged with Theft as a misdemeanor and two counts of Armed Robbery as a Level 3 Felony after footprints in the snow led officers to him.

According to Probable Cause Affidavits from Elkhart County, the Toledo Mart in Elkhart was robbed Dec. 18, 2025, when a man in a black facemask lifted his coat to show a handgun at his waistline while asking the clerk for tobacco and Delta 8 THC substitute products before exiting the scene on foot.

The clerk showed Elkhart County officers surveillance footage of the masked suspect and, after stating he thought he'd seen the man without a facemask the day before, showed footage of the customer.

While reviewing the footage, officers noted the suspect and customer both appeared to be wearing the same unique pair of brownish dress shoes with white soles.

Nearly a month later, on Thursday, Jan. 15, officers responded to an attempted robbery at the Bulldog Mobile gas station where a man had taken a pack of Welch's fruit snacks, three packs of Gusher fruit snacks, and a bag of Doritos, and attempted to access locked areas containing tobacco products.

The employee on duty showed the officers a video of the incident, including a still shot of the suspect's face, which appeared to show the man had a chipped front tooth.

The officers followed footprints in the fresh snow from the gas station to a residence on C.R. 15 where they found Edwards.

Edwards was escorted to the rear of a patrol vehicle where he was asked to smile. The officer noted Edwards had the same chipped tooth as the suspect and read Edwards his Miranda Rights.

According to one affidavit, Edwards was cooperative during the ensuing conversation, claiming the security video would show him "getting some candy" and, when questioned about the gas station robbery "on Middlebury", asking "you talking about Toledo?"

According to the same affidavit, Edwards further stated he wasn't trying to harm or rob anyone and he just likes smoking.

Edwards then consented to an interview at the Elkhart Police Department, where he allegedly admitted in a recording to being the suspect in the gas station robbery investigation, possessing a Glock 17 9mm handgun, and showing the clerk at Toledo Mart the gun with the purpose of getting the tobacco and THC substitute products without paying.

When shown pictures from the Toledo Mart case, Edwards identified himself as the customer with unique brown shoes and the masked suspect.

Edwards was placed under arrest for the armed robbery investigations and transported to Elkhart County Jail where he was charged.

An investigation with a search warrant later found the unique brownish shoes and the facemask at the C.R. 15 residence.

Edwards' initial hearing is set for Thursday.
