Officers suffer broken nose, dislocated finger, suspect arrested after allegedly assaulting sister and police

St. Joseph County Jail: Steven Fox

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A 41-year-old man is in jail facing several felony charges after a Sunday night incident where he allegedly assaulted his sister before later resisting and attacking South Bend police officers.

The South Bend Police Department reports officers responded to the 1600 block of Freemont Street for a domestic disturbance around 9 p.m.

Officers arrived to find the victim who stated her brother, Steven Fox, had assaulted her. Police noted the victim had a welt on the side of her head.

The report states as the officers tried to place Fox in handcuffs, he began to resist by turning toward them and pulling his arm from an officer's grasp.

Police say they repeatedly asked Fox to place his arm behind his back and warned that they would use their tasers if he continued resisting.

After several warnings, an officer deployed his taser, at which point the report states Fox continued resisting before running toward an officer, striking him in the vest by throwing himself at him, causing the officer to fall on the floor.

Another officer deployed her taser before Fox took it and punched her in the nose as she tried to grab one of his arms.

Officers were then able to handcuff Fox.

One officer suffered a broken nose, while the other's finger was dislocated. Both were treated at the hospital.

On Monday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Fox with two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement, as Level 5 Felonies, Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer, a Level 5 Felony, Domestic Battery, a Level 6 Felony, Domestic Battery, a Class A Misdemeanor, and three counts of Resisting Law Enforcement, as Class A Misdemeanors.

Fox is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.
