SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend schools will require students to power off, silence, and keep their personal communication devices out of sight during the school day.

Starting on July 1 a new student cell phone directive will take place in accordance with Indiana law.

This includes cell phones, smartwatches, headphones, and earbuds.

Exceptions are available for documented medical, educational, accessibility needs, approved instructional activities, and emergency situations.

Parents and guardians will contact the school's main office where staff will relay important messages to students.
