41,000 pounds of honey spilled on I-80/94 causes delays

LAKE COUNTY, Ind.—Three left lanes of eastbound I-80/94 at Calumet Ave. were closed Wednesday after a semi-truck spilled 41,000 pound of honey, Indiana State Police said.

A semi-truck transporting Amber Honey on Wednesday morning lost control and overturned, causing at least four containers of honey to leak as well as diesel fuel.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Traffic in both directions was impacted, causing back-ups and delays around 8:30 a.m. Police said the area may require an extended closure while crews work to clean up the incident.

Indiana State Police said that westbound lanes were backed-up due to “gawkers.”
