65th Mackinac Bridge walk brings in 30,000 people

ST. IGNACE, Mich. -- The Mackinac Bridge Authority says Monday morning's 2024 Mackinac Bridge walk brought in a reported 30,000 people from 6:30 a.m. to noon.

"While not the largest crowd we’ve seen, 30,000 is on the upper end of the range of 21,000-35,000 participants we’ve had in recent years," said MBA Bridge Director Kim Nowack. "It was an absolutely beautiful day, with cloudless skies giving unobstructed views of the Straits of Mackinac.”

Officials say based on the success of recent events, the bridge walk again started from St. Ignace and Mackinaw City, which eliminated the need for busing and offered additional options for participants.

The annual event has been happening since 1958, with the exception of 2020 when it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
