LGBTQ community celebrates pride month at Potawatomi Park
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Potawatomi Park opens its doors to the LGBT+ community to create a safe space to celebrate LGBTQ pride month.
Julian Schocki, The Board President of the LGBTQ+ Center stating, "Community is everywhere, community is everywhere. You just have to take the time and take the effort to carve it out and find it and make your own pockets of community, and an event like this here today is aimed to do just that,"
Different nonprofits were also able to attend the event to support and celebrate with the LGBTQ community, some even helping spread awareness on gender affirming care, suicide prevention, and health.
Schocki also noting, "Bringing the community together today has been awesome. I've heard from a couple vendors that this is the smoothest, like, pride event that they're a part of, and that you know, they just sign up, they get told where to go, they show up, and then they get to do their thing."
The event featured around 150 vendors selling art, décor, goodies, and even pet accessories, with the stage at the park also bringing entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
