ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Michiana Pottery Tour was held today, where over 15 regional ceramic artists showed their work for the public.

The event encourages people to get to know the artists, their work, and their space.

This event was part of the Northern Indiana Clay Alliance, a nonprofit that's based in Goshen.

Every year in September a Michiana Pottery Tour is held at various locations over the Michiana area, but the difference between that and the spring tour is that this focuses on artist's studios.

"I think I think everyone could benefit from making something with their hands, and since Covid, I think pottery has become more of a mainstream thing, and I think it's really exciting that more people are learning about it and trying it out for themselves," said Norah Ruth Amstutz, a potter.

Visitors did see demonstrations, while discussing studio practices and the joy of pottering.

"My favorite part of doing the tour is seeing the people and getting to talk to everyone about not only my work, but their love of pottery, and getting to see how much joy that they get from it," said Loria Marsh, a potter. "What I enjoy the most is the fact that you can't think about anything else while you're working on it. It is a complete and total distraction. It takes your mind away from everything else, and you just focus in on that little bitty thing, and making it look as much like a full-size piece as you possibly can."

Those who visited were also able to purchase and sign up for a class in the future.
